Driving Directions

From West: Take I-76 East, and take the PA-72 exit, Exit 266, toward Lebanon/Lancaster. Turn left onto Lebanon Rd/ PA-72 N. Continue to follow PA-72 N. Turn right onto PA-419 N. Continue to follow PA-419 into Schaefferstown. At first light, continue straight ahead. At next light, turn right onto S. Carpenter St. and continue approximately 1/4 mile. Farm entrance is located on the right.

From East: Take I-76 West, and take the PA-72 exit, Exit 266, toward Lebanon/Lancaster. Turn left onto Lebanon Rd/ PA-72 N. Continue to follow PA-72 N. Turn right onto PA-419 N. From North: Take I-81 S, and merge onto I-78 E via Exit 89 on the left toward Allentown. Take the PA-501 S Exit, exit 13, toward Bethel. Turn right onto PA-501 S. Continue to follow PA-501 S into Schaefferstown. Turn left onto Heidelberg Ave. (PA-419 & PA-897). Continue to next light, and turn right onto Carpenter St. and continue approximately 1/4 mile. Farm entrance is located on the right.

From South: Take I-83 north, and merge onto US-30 E via Exit 21A. Near Lancaster, take the exit toward PA-501 (Lititz Pike), PA-272 (Oregon Pike), US-222 S. Turn left onto PA-501 N (Lititz Pike). Continue to follow PA-501 (becomes Stiegel Pike). As you approach Schaefferstown, watch for brown historical sign for HSI. Turn right onto Old Mill Rd. Then turn left onto Carpenter St. Continue on Carpenter St. Farm entrance is located on the left.

Facility Rental

The non-museum facilities at the Schaeffer farm are available for special events, including family reunions, vintage car shows, and more. For details, please call 717-949-2244.

Museum Tours

Generally, HSI sites are available for tours from April through October each year.

The Alexander Schaeffer House, a National Historic Landmark, on the Schaeffer farm is open only on farm festival days and by private appointment. To schedule a tour for your group, please call 717-949-2244.

The Gemberling Rex House and the Brendle Museum are open for tours 1pm to 4pm every Tuesday and on the first Saturday of each month (April through October). No appointment necessary.

Admission Fees

  • Adults: $5.00 per person per museum, or $8.00 per person for both museums
  • Seniors, Teens 12-18 & Groups of 8+: $4.00 per person for each museum
  • Supervised children under age 12 admitted free.
  • Members of HSI presenting current membership card: Free
